About the CIO Tool

What is the benchmark?

The CIO Infrastructure Benchmarking Assessment Tool measures how well an organization is doing in building, operating, and maintaining its IT infrastructure. The benchmarks cover eight top-level solutions areas:
  • IT Service Management
  • SOA Infrastructure
  • Information Warehouse
  • User Platform
  • IT Resource Optimization
  • Information Lifecycle Management
  • Business Continuity
  • IT Security
The benchmarks compare your responses against data from other organizations across the world, providing a real measurement against live data. The benchmark includes over 1,500 organizational results. When you have completed the online questionnaire, a benchmark graphic is generated on-screen. A GIF of the graphic will also be emailed to you if you request it. You may then either finish benchmarking or return to the 'Choose a benchmark' screen to complete as many of the benchmarks as you like.

What does the benchmark do for me?

The benchmarks are not designed to provide answers to all your most pressing problems. Neither are they a replacement for the in-depth paid-for benchmarking that you can obtain from a hands-on piece of consultancy work. What these benchmarks can do however is give you a good indication of where there is the most need for investigation and action, and where you might therefore expend limited resources most effectively.

How does it work?

The benchmark is executed by answering all the questions in the online questionnaire. The system then assesses the answers and calculates your score against a series of algorithms. The algorithms are constructed against a series of models developed over many years by The Bathwick Group to measure different aspects of organizations. The data you entered will determine your score. The CIO benchmark tool will illustrate your score on the output graphic, along with the average (mean) across all the organizations in the set, and the range of scores from lowest to best in class.

What & who are behind the benchmark?

The questionnaire and algorithms behind the benchmark, and the application that executes it, were devised and constructed by The Bathwick Group, an independent, specialised research, analysis, and marketing consultancy which was founded in 1997.
